This is the home page of Alex Rollin. I live in Amsterdam, Netherlands. I travel to and spend a lot of time in the USA and continental Europe. I am originally from Santa Rosa, California.
I am involved in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) production systems, and I am a practitioner in several skill areas.
I've been working as a a project manager serving in manufacturing and software development. Within software development i have experience as an information architect with a focus on the client side in outsourced projects.
Drupal is my personal favorite content management system and I've aided a number of organizations in bringing Drupal in to serve their needs. I've developed custom modules and themes as well as trained organizations to use Drupal effectively for their communication needs.
Integral theory has been a touchstone since 1995. I tend to work work with and consume information and materials produced by or with individuals familiar with integral theory or who are open to the idea that 'more' complete thinking will get us closer to equitable solutions than piecemeal approaches.
I currently engage clients in a number of ways around the areas of personal development and relationship counseling. I've counseled clients from many walks of life through difficult transitions and helped them to heighten their awareness and create a sense of spaciousness that brings them greater joy and fulfillment from both mundane and extraordinary events.
At this moment I am working on 2 project areas that are complimentary to each other.
On one hand I am aiding in the development of an international network that produces a developmental wiki and a set of programs for personal development with a focus on meditation. The public resource links for this project are forthcoming.
On the other hand I am involved in a P2P consultancy, links forthcoming, that aids and abets the development of robust P2P dynamics for new, formed, and reforming organizations around the world. Through this consultancy I am actively participating in a number of projects that might be described as "turning products into infrastructure as service." A simple example of this might be one of the projects currently in development in Santa Rosa, CA, that is affiliated with the GoLocal Coop. The project, led by Riis Larsen, is a bike rental 'unit' of the coop. Riis will be building up, maintaining, and renting a fleet of bicycles to students and others who frequent Santa Rosa Junior College in Santa Rosa, CA. He'll be an employee of the coop, and the coop will provide support for a number of administrative functions for the business. I will be aiding Riis in bringing the business unit online and aiding the coop in the development of administrative skills and procedures necessary to support Riis unit.
These two areas are complimentary because the 'infrastructure as services' is new and often requires a host of adaptation for people who normally work in 'normal jobs' and careers. Tools and systems that aid in the development of personal awareness can assist individuals in making these adaptations and welcoming others into the the mix, too.
